Developing Leaders Across an International Aviation Organisation

Leadership · Management Capability · International Development

The Situation

Clemorton worked with Swissport on leadership and supervisory development within a major international aviation services organisation.

The work involved international delivery and engagement with leaders operating in different cultural and operational environments.

The Challenge

Large international organisations need consistency in leadership while recognising that every location operates in its own context.

Managers and supervisors work in operational environments where customer expectations, safety, service, people management and performance come together every day.

Leadership development therefore needed to be practical enough for frontline operations while remaining relevant to senior leaders and the wider organisation.

What We Did

Clemorton delivered leadership and supervisory development, including Active Leadership and Active Supervision programmes.

The work included activity connected with Swissport's headquarters in Zurich and international delivery including South Africa and Japan.

Clemorton worked with senior and executive stakeholders as well as managers and supervisors participating in the development.

The emphasis throughout was on practical leadership behaviour and its application in the workplace.

What Changed

The programmes received strong participant feedback and supported leadership development across different parts of the international organisation.

The work also demonstrated the importance of combining consistent leadership principles with an understanding of the operational and cultural environment in which people are working.

The Clemorton Perspective

Aviation has been part of Clemorton's work for more than two decades.

It is an environment where leadership cannot be separated from operational performance.

What managers do affects communication, behaviour, service, capability and ultimately the consistency of the operation.

That experience continues to shape the way we work with aviation organisations today.
